UNMA PREDICTS DROUGHT IN THE JUNE-JULY AUGUST RAINFALL OUTLOOK.

The Uganda Meteorological Authority-UNMA has predicated an overall drought in most parts of the country in the June-July-August period.
According to a noticed dated 30th June 2023 on the seasonal rainfall outlook for June to August, signed by the acting executive director Bob Alex Ogwang there will be a dry spell in southern, Eastern, central. South western and Lake Victoria basin. The notice however says that in there will be continuous of the rainfall in most parts of northern Uganda.
The notice says the drought is likely to increase incidences of shortage of pasture for livestock and water for production.
In fishing areas, the fish catch will reduce due to low level of water which makes fish to escape to deeper water.
The Authority advises farmers to apply irrigation with appropriate technologies to sustain crop growth as well as planting short maturing crops and store enough food.
Lillian Nkwenge the public relations officer UNMA has confirmed the development, asking the public especially farmers to consider the authority’s advisories.
