The police in Ibanda district are hunting for a mob that lynched a 38 year old woman, Nice Twikirize, a resident of Kigaaga in Kigaaga ward Kanyarugiri town council in Ibanda north.

The incident happened on Saturday night and according to the residents, Twikirize is alleged to have bewitched Esau Twinamastiko who also died on Sunday evening.

The deceased’s husband Keneth Tushabe said the mob picked his wife from their home. She was later taken to Esau’s compound where she was lynched. 

Twinamastiko, who the residents allege was bewitched, was the Ibanda district youth vice chairperson.  

Before his death, residents say the deceased had health complications and had severally visited health facilities for treatment.

However, sources indicate that the deceased’s family had invited a prayer healer who said Nice (now the deceased) was behind his sickness.

Police visited the scene and later took the two bodies to Ruhoko health center four for postmortem.

Nelson Tumwine, the Ibanda deputy OC CID accused the prayer healer for causing chaos among residents and must be the first suspect.  

Robert Byamukama the mayor for Kanyarugiri town council condemned residents for taking the law into their hands.
