SUSPECT IN KITAGWENDA DRUG THEFT CASE RELEASED ON BAIL
Suspect in Kitagwenda drug theft case released on bail
The Anti-Corruption Court in Kampala has granted bail to Ronald Mukamasimwe, the assistant inventory management officer at Ntara Health Centre IV and prime suspect in the Kitagwenda drug theft case. His release brings the number of suspects granted bail in the high-profile case to two, following the earlier release of Gladys Ithugu.
Mukamasimwe, along with co-accused Allan Mumbere, had previously been denied bail for failing to meet court requirements. However, according to Dr. Warren Naamara, Executive Director of the State House Health Monitoring Unit (HMU), Mukamasimwe reappeared before the court on Thursday last week and successfully fulfilled the bail conditions.
The court has adjourned the case to April 29, 2025, when the suspects will return for further proceedings and interrogation.
Mukamasimwe, Mumbere, Ithugu, and Julius Businge, a health information assistant at Mahyoro Health Centre III are accused of illegal possession and sale of government-labeled medical supplies, including Paracetamol tablets, Cotrimoxazole capsules, and gloves marked “Government of Uganda – Not for Sale.”
