RESIDENTS STRANDED AFTER FLOODS SWEEP AWAY CROPS,HOUSES.

Residents of Kigunga parish in Rukiri Sub County Ibanda district are stranded after floods hit the area and destroyed several gardens exposing residents to hunger and poverty.

The heavy rains that last for over six hours were characterized by floods and heavy winds which destroyed plantations of coffee, bananas, and beans among others leaving residents in disarray.

The floods also swept two temporary access bridges of Kigunga –Bwenda and Kigunga-Bwahwa-Tukamuhebwa that residents use for business transactions.

Three villages of Kishenshero, Ngyendo one and Ngyendo II were the most affected.

Stranded residents want the government to intervene.

The Kasensero LC1 Chairperson, Justin Twesigye said floods were due to the fast running water from the nearby hills hence causing severe damage to people’s property.

The area parish councilor, Egidio Amutukundire said the landslides affected farmers who were almost harvesting their crops and also cutoff all access roads, paralyzing transport.
