PLANT SEEDS THAT MATURE QUICKLY IBANDA FARMERS URGED

IBANDA: IVAN
Agricultural experts in Ibanda District have advised farmers to select seeds that mature quickly to maximize yields before the rainy season ends. This follows heightened anticipation among farmers eager to begin planting as rainfall is expected soon.
According to recent meteorological predictions, substantial rainfall is expected between mid March and April. Farmers have been urged to prepare their gardens and select appropriate seeds that can thrive within the short March–April–May season.
Peter Bwegye, the Ibanda District Agricultural Officer, emphasized the importance of choosing seeds based on their growth potential rather than appearance.
He recommended that farmers opt for fast-growing seeds that mature within 60–65 days. For those growing beans, he suggested varieties like, Narobean2, Narobean3, longe2 & longe 5 while maize farmers were encouraged to plant varieties such as Longe 4 and Longe5, which reach maturity within four months.
The guidance from agricultural experts is expected to help farmers in Ibanda optimize their crop production and improve food security in the district.
