IBANDA MUNICIPAL COUNCIL ADJOURNED OVER TEMPORARY STRUCTURES

IBANDA: GLORIA
The Ibanda municipal council meant to lay the 2025/26 financial year budget was adjourned yesterday over issues concerning demolishing temporary structures on the Main Street in Ibanda town.
The matter was resolved in the previous council meeting held in December 2024 after seeking technical guidance from the principle engineer, that the temporary structures in question be demolished with immediate effect.
Councilors demanded the council speaker, Hillary Optato to amend the rule passed in the council which gave Ezekiel Kajwarire 14 days to demolish his temporary structure on the Main Street or face an action from the municipal council.
Municipal council members demanded to know why the resolution only targeted Ezekiel Kajwarire, given the number of temporary structures in Ibanda town.
Junior Guma, one of the council members who boycotted the council said that the previous council resolved to come up with the list of all temporary structures in Ibanda town for consideration in yesterday’s council meeting but he was surprised when only Ezekiel Kajware was targeted.
Reacting on the matter of concern, the Ibanda municipality mayor Twiine Apollo Kibeherere told council members that his office is planning a meeting with the office of the RDC to find a lasting solution to the matter.
