BY JOSHUA
All livestock markets in Kazo district have been cleared to start operating normally effective today, March 17, 2025.
This was revealed today by the Kazo Assistant RDC, Garshomu Mushabe in a meeting held at Kazo district headquarters, attended all parish chiefs, Sub-County chiefs, animals transporters, chairperson LCIIIs, and GISOs among others.
This follows Ministry of Agriculture, Animal Industry and Fisheries to officially lift quarantine restrictions on animal movements in Kazo District that were imposed due to Foot andMouth Disease (FMD) outbreak in Kazo and surrounding areas. The decision comes after a successful vaccination campaign that achieved over 95% coverage and the implementation of necessary health measures. The quarantine restrictions have been in place since January 2024.
Mushabe however said that restrictions against animals from other districts entering Kazo are still in place.
Kazo District production officer, Zephline Tumwesigye asked all sub-counties to fence their animal markets and also strengthen the animal check points, among other guidelines to be followed after lifting the quarantine.
