Hailstorm hits Mbarara district.

Over 500 families from Rubindi sub-county and Rubindi town council in Mbarara district are afraid of famine after a hailstorm hit the area, destroying several plantations.

The storm that was accompanied by a downpour on Saturday evening destroyed bananas, beans, coffee, pineapples and cassava in Nyamiriro and Rwamuhigyi parishes in Rubindi Sub County and Bisya ward in Rubindi town council.

The LC3 chairperson, Bamuturakyi John Bosco, said other incidents have been occurring between 2021 and 2022.He is now asking government to send relief aid to the affected families.

 Some of the affected residents said their plantations of bananas, coffee, and other germinating crops were destroyed and are now worried they may get famine since their crops have been destroyed.

Hon.Bazil Bataringaya the Kashari north Member of Parliament who rushed to the area to console the affected residents asked the sub county leadership to compile a report, submit it to the district to be sent to the government for relief aid.
