“I Will Not Step Down for Minister Tumwebaze” – Independent Candidate Chripas Mugisha Vows to Stay in Kibale East Race

Asiimwe Chripas Mugisha, an independent candidate contesting for the Kibale East parliamentary seat in Kamwenge District, has defiantly stated that he will not withdraw from the race to pave way for the incumbent, Hon. Frank Tumwebaze, who also serves as the Minister of Agriculture, Animal Industry and Fisheries.

Mugisha’s remarks come after a recent National Resistance Movement (NRM) reconciliation meeting chaired by the Deputy Speaker of Parliament Rt. Hon Tomas Tayebwa and Jornad Asiimwe the NRM Vice Chairperson for Western Region.

The meeting sought to harmonize relationships between NRM flag bearers and independent candidates, persuading the latter to step down in favor of official party candidates ahead of the 2026 general elections.

While several independent aspirants have since bowed out of the race, Mugisha maintained that he would continue his bid for the Kibale East seat, arguing that he is equally capable of serving the people effectively.
