 UMEME TOPS CONSUMER COMPLAINTS-IBANDA

The business community in Ibanda has asked Utility companies to put in place quick response systems towards consumer complaints. The call by came after numerous complaints about the slow response of service providers, mainly Umeme, whenever there is a supply failure or any other concern from the public.

In the recent past, experts asked Parliament to design regulations that address the plight of consumers when purchasing and accessing goods and services.

An assessment conducted by our reporter on consumer protection, UMEME was the most pinned institution over poor mechanism of handling consumer complaints.

Daphne Twongyeirwe who operates a dairy business opposite Ibanda central market among other consumers who include clinic operators,said there always been constant power outrages which officials responsible have failed to handle which has destabilized her business.

Our reporter is yet to get a comment from UMEME over the matter.

On 8th November 2024, the government of Uganda wrote to Umeme confirming that it will not renew its concession after its contract elapses on March 25th for failure to handle Uganda’s power issues.
