Two Kitagwenda Officials on Interdiction For Office Abuse
Two public officers in Kitagwenda District are facing interdiction following allegations of stealing and selling government medical supplies.
The accused officers are Ronald Mukamasimwe, the Assistant Inventory Management Officer at Ntara Health Centre IV, and Julius Businge, the Health Information Assistant at Mahyoro Health Centre III.
In a letter dated December 27, 2024, Dr. Warren Naamara, the Executive Director of the State House Health Monitoring Unit (HMU), revealed that the officers allegedly sold a significant consignment of medical supplies, including Paracetamol tablets, Cotrimoxazole capsules, and gloves marked Government of Uganda – Not for Sale. These items were intercepted by police at Kyendangara Trading Centre in Mahyoro Town Council, being transported by a boda-boda rider.
According to the 2021 revised Standing Orders, public officers under investigation must be interdicted for at least six months, during which they receive half their salary.
Rwenzori FM established that Mukamasimwe, who was promoted to Procurement Officer in June 2024 but has yet to relinquish his former role as stores manager, now finds himself embroiled in the scandal.
Businge, on the other hand, is no stranger to controversy. This marks the second time he has been implicated in drug theft. Earlier this year, he was arrested over similar allegations but was later released on bond. The recurrence of such cases has heightened concerns about systemic corruption within the district’s health sector.
