The speaker Igorora town council in Ibanda district Isaac Tukamuhebwa has today adjourned council meant to approve the 2025/2026 financial year following a protest by councilors over meager allowances.

Councilors hoped that before discussing, analyzing and approving the budget, the town clerk John Baptist Mujuni would  increase their allowances from 55,000 shillings to shs 65,000/=.

However, their hopes were turned down as the town clerk openly told them there was no increment.   They turned furious saying they won’t go further if their matter is not handled.

The speaker adjourned the meeting to have the matter resolved.

Later council resumed after the town clerk accepted to increase the councilors’ emoluments.

In his remarks, Isaac asked Councilors to support government efforts in protecting wetlands.

John Muganzi the LC3 chairperson Igorora town council asked the planner to submit names of people encroaching on wetlands for action.

The councilors later approved the 2025/2026 financial budget worth 93 million shillings only.
