The Ibanda district council on Thursday passed the 2023/2024 financial year budget worth ugx29.8 billion.

The budget was passed after thorough consultation and discussion by the executive, technical, planning and standing committees on Thursday May 27, 2023.

While presenting the budget during the council session, the secretary for finance, planning and administration John Tushemereirwe Kampimpi, said the education department was allocated the lion’s share of the budget worth 12bn.

The budget indicates there was a slight reduction of 1 billion compared to the previous financial year which was at ugx30 billion.

Kampimpi attributes the budget cuts to the current inflation in the country in addition to the inadequate central government transfers that have continued to cripple service delivery overtime.

Godwin Muhumuza, the district council speaker said the deduction of the budget will affect service delivery given the demand and the expectations from the public. He was however quick to say that the district will use   the available resources justifiably to extend services to the people.
