Police in Rwampara district are investigating circumstances that led to a fire outbreak affecting two boys’ dormitories at Rwenyaga Secondary School in Mwizi Sub County.
It’s alleged that on April 14, 2024, at Rwenyaga Secondary School, when students had gone to watch a football match between Arsenal and Aston Villa in the school’s main hall fire butted two boys’ dormitories.
According to Samson Kasasira, the Rwizi region police spokesperson, the fire broke out in the Felix block, which houses two dormitories that accommodate 80 students.
Samson noted that a senior six student who was revising in a nearby classroom quickly reported the matter to the teachers, who then disconnected the electricity.
No student died however property was destroyed
Police investigations show that a charcoal flat iron was left on a bed when students were rushing to watch football.
Kasasira added that police investigations into the matter are ongoing.
