PARENTS AND GUARDIANS URGED TO COOPERATE WITH HEALTH WORKERS IN MALARIA IMMUNIZATION CAMPAIGN

HEALTH: BY GLORIA

The Ibanda district health assistant in charge of child and maternal health, Dr Hope Katusiime has asked parents and guardians to cooperate with health workers in during the malaria immunization scheduled for April 1, 2025.

On March 7, 2025, the Ugandan Ministry of Health, led by Minister Dr. Jane Ruth Aceng, flagged off the distribution of 2.278 million doses of malaria vaccines to 105 districts with high and moderate malaria transmission, marking a significant step in Uganda’s fight against the disease.

Dr. Katusiime said that Malaria remains the leading cause of illness and death of young children in Uganda, and the introduction of the vaccine is expected to significantly reduce severe illness and deaths, among children under five years.

She added that the district has trained all health workers in charge of immunization for an effective exercise.

According to Dr. Katusiime, the malaria vaccine will be introduced into the routine immunization schedule in April 2025, targeting children aged below two years.

The four- dose vaccine will be administered at 6, 7, 8, and 18 months, ensuring optimal protection from malaria during the most vulnerable stages of early childhood.
