Christians have today worldwide officially started the Lenten season with Ash Wednesday.

Ash Wednesday is traditionally observed with fasting and abstinence from meat in several Christian denominations. As it is the first day of Lent, many Christians begin Ash Wednesday by marking a Lenten calendar, praying a Lenten daily devotional, and making a Lenten sacrifice that they will not partake of until the arrival of Eastertide.

At St.Charles Lwanga Bubaare catholic parish rev.fr. Eradius Tairo asked Christians to go extra in observing the Lenten season norms which including fasting, prayer, confession and almsgiving.

The same message was echoed by fr. Edward Besigye of Nyabuhikye catholic parish while leading masses at Nyabuhikye secondary school and primary.

At Nyabuhikye primary and secondary learners told our reporter that they will use the Lenten season to do charitable work for their colleagues and the community as well as intense prayer.

Kansiime Virginia head teacher Nyabuhikye primary school and Humphrey Tumushabe the lay chaplain Nyabuhikye secondary school told our reporter that they will ensure both the teachers and learners observe the norms of the Lenten season.
