Fiona Nakku has been elected the Female Workers’ Member of Parliament in the 12th Parliament after a closely contested election decided by a margin of just three votes.
The election was held on Monday at Kibuli Secondary School, where 630 workers’ delegates gathered to cast their ballots.
Nakku narrowly defeated the National Resistance Movement (NRM) flag bearer and incumbent, Agnes Kunihira, in one of the tightest races of the workers’ representatives’ elections.
According to the final tally, Nakku secured 290 votes, while Kunihira polled 287 votes.
Nakku is the sister of NRM National Treasurer Barbra Nekesa and had last year declared her intention to contest for the Workers’ Member of Parliament (Female) seat in the 2026 general elections.
She joined the race after she was earlier disqualified from contesting for the National Female Youth MP position for exceeding the youth age limit.
The Female Workers’ MP seat is one of the five workers’ representative positions that were contested during the elections held at Kibuli Secondary School.
