Ministry launches demarcation on Mpanga river.
The Ministry of Water and Environment has today carried out a demarcation exercise along river Mpanga.
Officials from the ministry of water and environment, district leadership, Kburara prison and Joint effort to save the environment-JESE a non-government organization started by marking wetland boundaries of 100 meters from the river.
During the demarcation, Officers from Kiburara prisons were asked not to plant crops again, to allow the wetlands rejuvenate.
Elly Kirya the ibanda District natural resources officer noted the demarcation exercise which started from Ibanda south is intended to save river Mpanga and other natural resources which had been destroyed by human activities.
Christopher Busingye an official from JESE said that water level at river Mpanga had reduced which made them to start a campaign to save it from degradation by human activities.
Asp Opio Kennedy deputy OC Kiburara prisons said they respond positively to the matter.
Elias Tumuboine the vice chairperson Ibanda District asked residents to adhere to the government’s call by voluntarily leaving the areas demarcated.
