The Kitagwenda District Chairperson, Ismail Mushemeza, has been arrested in connection with alleged job extortion, authorities have confirmed.
Mushemeza, who had reportedly been on the run since July 2025, was arrested on Wednesday morning in Kampala by police officers attached to the State House Anti-Corruption Unit (SHACU).
Confirming the arrest, SHACU spokesperson Marian Natasha said the suspect was apprehended while in the capital.
She added that arrangements are underway to have Mushemeza produced before court.
The arrest follows allegations that the district boss was involved in extorting money from job seekers in exchange for employment opportunities.
In July 2025, Mushemeza allegedly evaded arrest during a campaign activity in Kicheche Sub-county, after security operatives moved in to apprehend him.
Investigations into the matter are ongoing as authorities prepare to formally charge him in court.
