The Chairperson of Kitagwenda Town Council in Kitagwenda District, Patrick Turyamureeba Payi, has called for proper utilization of technical schools within the district, citing persistently low enrollment levels despite the availability of facilities.

He made the appeal on Wednesday while addressing district leaders, heads of schools, and other stakeholders during the dissemination of Primary Leaving Examination (PLE) and Uganda Certificate of Education (UCE) results at the district headquarters.

Kitagwenda District currently has two technical institutions, Kitagwenda Technical School and St. Joseph’s Kyarubingo Technical School. However, district leaders noted that the institutions are not operating at full capacity, as student enrollment remains significantly low.

Turyamureeba expressed concern that some learners from the district are opting to enroll in technical schools in neighboring districts instead of utilizing the institutions within Kitagwenda. He emphasized the need for local leaders and education stakeholders to encourage parents and guardians to enroll their children in the district’s technical schools so that they can acquire practical skills relevant to employment and self-reliance.
