 Mass enrollment and renewal of National identify cards launched in Ibanda district

The mass enrollment and mass renewal of national identity cards by the National Identification and Registration Authority (NIRA) which kicked off yesterday across the country, has been launched in Ibanda today.

The exercise was launched at the office of the Resident District Commissioner (RDC) Godfrey Mbetegyerize who called upon all citizens of Ibanda district to update their National IDs.

Mbetegyerize stressed that the ID is a vital document for benefiting from government initiatives.

Peter Emmanuel Wandela, the NIRA registrar in Ibanda said the exercise is part of a countrywide campaign targeting over 15.8 million renewals and 17.2 million new registrations with the campaign expected to run for six months.

Wandela said that the exercise is free; however those who want to change particulars will be handled at the district offices.

He said that people should come to parish level with expired or expiring national ID.
