 Ibanda Court adjourns case of two men who were arrested for wearing UPDF uniform

The chief magistrate’s court sitting in Ibanda presided over by her worship Shelagh Agnes Nantaawo has adjourned the case of two men who were arrested for wearing Uganda People Defence Force (UPDF) camouflage without permission from the minister.

Court heard that Joseph Mucunguzi alias Munde 22, a boda-boda rider, Champion Julius and others still at large, all residents of Kyembogo village in Karangara ward Bisheshe division in Ibanda municipality, on the day of September 2023 at Muziza village in Ibanda district, not being members of (UPDF) were found without permission of the minister, wearing the attire, threatening to evict people from land.

According to law, wearing this uniform without authority is contrary to section 152(1) of the penal code act chapter 128.

The two were arrested on Friday May 23, 2025 by the team of state house anti-corruption unit.

Appearing before the chief magistrate’s court for plea, Mucunguzi and Champion pleaded not guilty to the charges against them.

The same court heard that during the year of 2023, Joseph Mucunguzi alias Munde while at Kyembogo village in Ibanda municipality not being a member of the UPDF was found without permission of the minister, wearing the UPDF attire.

Appearing before court, Mucunguzi denied charges on him.

The presiding chief Magistrate Her worship Shelagh Agnes Nantaawo adjourned the case till June 11, 2025 when they will reappear to court for mention.
