The Kibaale County area MP, Eng. Cuthbert Abigaba Mirembe has commended residents who initiated the move to have the culprits of Uganda Electricity Distribution Company Limited – UEDCL arrested over extorting the public for electricity connection.
The legislator said it has been a disturbing matter for long for UEDCL staff to extort exorbitant fees from their prospective clients yet the government resumed a free connection policy countrywide. Cuthbert said the only expense a client meets is house connection fees and inspection fees which after satisfaction, meter connection is free.
He said that under free connection policy, no payments made to a private person, appealing to the public to report any one asking for money in the name of electricity connection.Cuthbert asked UEDCL to discipline its employees and for those arrested, he appealed to the authorities to let the law take its course.
