The People’s Front for Freedom (PFF) expressed a strong desire for National Unity Platform (NUP) leader Robert Kyagulanyi Ssentamu to spearhead a united opposition coalition in the upcoming 2026 presidential elections.
At a press briefing on Monday at their offices on Katonga Road, PFF officials, including President Erias Lukwago and Secretary General Ssemuju Nganda, indicated their willingness to support a single opposition candidate to challenge the ruling establishment.
Lukwago emphasized that opposition unity is crucial in what he described as an increasingly “militarized and manipulated political environment.”
He cited concerns over the abduction of citizens and political candidates, a heavy military presence, and what the party called the ruling National Resistance Movement’s (NRM) near-total control over civic institutions.
The PFF, which previously formed a coalition with the Alliance for National Transformation (ANT), noted that NUP’s active engagement in the presidential race has shifted the opposition’s dynamics.
NUP has already submitted Kyagulanyi’s credentials to the Electoral Commission.
The party reiterated its commitment to supporting a candidate who can effectively challenge the Museveni regime, stating that fragmentation would only benefit the NRM.
