The National Resistance Movement (NRM) Secretariat has committed Shs 30 million in support of the upcoming 52nd birthday run for Muhoozi Kainerugaba, adding momentum to one of the country’s most visible public mobilisation events.
The contribution, largely in the form of kits, was announced on Wednesday during a visit to the Patriotic League of Uganda (PLU) Secretariat in Kampala.
NRM Secretary General Richard Todwong, who personally contributed Shs10 million, praised the initiative for promoting unity and national values, particularly among young people.
“This run plays a significant role in uniting especially the youth around patriotism, community service and national values,” Todwong said.
He also described Muhoozi as a strong role model whose leadership continues to inspire many young Ugandans, noting that the event reflects maturity, experience and a continued commitment to national service.
Todwong called on NRM members and supporters to turn up in large numbers for the run scheduled this Sunday, adding that the party will participate officially with a delegation of senior leaders.
Later, NRM National Treasurer Barbara Nekesa led a delegation from the party secretariat to the PLU headquarters, accompanied by other senior officials.
Nekesa commended PLU for its role in promoting patriotism, democracy, good governance and socio-economic transformation.
She said the organisation’s partnership with the NRM has contributed to advancing national development goals, including during the recent general elections.
She reaffirmed the ruling party’s commitment to continued collaboration with PLU and encouraged supporters to take part in the run not only as a celebration, but also as a contribution to humanitarian causes.
The event is scheduled to take place at Kololo Independence Grounds and is expected to attract more than 50,000 participants.
Organised by the Patriots Club and PLU, the annual run has evolved into a major platform for promoting fitness, patriotism and community engagement. Muhoozi is expected to lead the participants as chief runner.
The high-profile event is likely to draw ministers, Members of Parliament, foreign dignitaries and supporters from across the country.
In the lead-up to the event, Acting Director of Defence Public Information, Chris Magezi, described the run as a unifying initiative that continues to attract thousands of young participants.
Police spokesperson Kituuma Rusoke said security and traffic management plans are in place to ensure smooth movement and crowd control around Kololo.
“We are fully prepared. A detailed traffic management plan will be shared in advance, and officers will be on the ground to guide motorists and pedestrians,” Rusoke said.
Last year’s edition focused on environmental conservation under the “Greening Uganda” campaign, with participants engaging in tree planting and climate awareness activities. It was flagged off by Kayanja Muhanga and attracted a large turnout.
Organisers say the event continues to grow as a platform for youth mobilisation, social causes and national cohesion.
