No story is Worth your life; the executive director of African institute of investigate journalism (AIIJ) Mr Solomon Serwanja has warns journalists.
As we head into NRM primaries and forthcoming 2026, general elections, the executive director of African institute of investigate journalism AIIJ Mr Solomon Serwanja has warned journalists from regions of Ankole, Kigezi and Tooro to be extra careful with thier lives while covering the violence in politics.
Serwanja made the statements while presenting a topic of Training and capacity building during the refresher course of journalists on human rights, democracy and elections reporting at Las Vegas garden hotel in Mbarara City yesterday.
He said that on the safety and security of journalists during elections, the editorial has to plan for violence scenarios in elections adding that being branded doesn’t insulate Journalists from the attacks.
Serwanja explained that journalists are targeted during elections because at times they suppress the truth or they are attacked intentionally.
On risk assessment and management, Serwanja said that escape routes, distance, nature of the area should be considered.
