NEW MEMBERS OF IBANDA UNIVERSITY GOVERNING COUNCIL INAUGURATED

Ibanda University has officially inaugurated its new Governing Council, ushering in a fresh leadership team that will steer the institution for the next four years.
Among the newly appointed members is Gen. (Rtd) Kale Kayihura, the former Inspector General of Police, who has also been named Chairperson of the Council’s Planning and Development Committee.
According to the press statement released by Lawrence Mucunguzi, the University Public Relations Officer, the inauguration ceremony took place on Monday, May 19, 2025 at AK Gardens Hotel in Ibanda Town.
Gen. Kayihura joins the council with extensive experience in national leadership, security, and strategic planning. His role as Chairperson of the Planning and Development Committee will see him lead initiatives that shape the university’s physical and academic expansion, including infrastructure development, innovation hubs, and future academic programs.
The new Governing Council is chaired by Dr. Clementia Mureembe, who was re-elected for another term in recognition of her outstanding leadership and service.
In addition to Gen. Kayihura, the new Council features a diverse team of prominent individuals from academia, public service, and cultural institutions, including Hon. Jovrine Kaliisa Kyomukama – National Deputy Coordinator, Parish Development Model (PDM)

While addressing the gathering, Dr. John Busingye, Chairperson of the Board of Directors at
Ibanda University congratulated the new Council members and thanked the outgoing team for their dedicated service.
“We are confident that the collective expertise of this new Governing Council under the capable leadership of Dr. Mureembe and with Gen. Kayihura guiding our planning efforts will greatly enhance the university’s vision of becoming a center of academic excellence and innovation,” Dr. Busingye said.
