Kyambogo Passport Office Resumes Operations after Fibre Disruption

The Directorate of Citizenship and Immigration Control has confirmed the resumption of passport issuance services at the Kyambogo Passport Issuance Office following a temporary disruption caused by a fibre cut.
Operations at the centre were halted on Monday after the connectivity failure affected service delivery, forcing officials to suspend passport issuance.
In a statement issued Monday, the National Citizenship and Immigration Control (NCIC) said: “Kyambogo Passport issuance office is experiencing downtime due to a fibre cut. Passport issuance is on hold until further notice.”
The outage left several applicants stranded, with some reporting delays in collecting ready passports and completing scheduled processes.
However, by Tuesday, services had been fully restored.
“Our services at the Kyambogo Passport Issuance office are fully operational. Thank you for your patience,” the centre said in an update, assuring applicants that normal operations had resumed.
The Ministry of Internal Affairs oversees the Directorate of Citizenship and Immigration Control, which manages passport processing and issuance across the country.
The Kyambogo Passport Collection Centre was established to decongest the main passport office in central Kampala, which has in the past struggled with long queues and high demand for travel documents. The facility primarily serves residents of Kampala and surrounding central and eastern regions, enabling applicants to collect their ready passports after completing the application and biometric enrolment process.
The temporary disruption highlights the increasing reliance on digital infrastructure in delivering public services, particularly within immigration systems that depend on real-time connectivity for verification and processing.
Officials did not indicate whether additional measures would be put in place to prevent similar outages in the future but encouraged applicants to monitor official communication channels for updates in case of service interruptions.
With operations now restored, authorities say the centre is working to clear any backlog that may have accumulated during the downtime.
