Kitagwenda residents devastated as destructive hailstorm sweeps their gardens

Residents of Kabare ward in Kitagwenda town council and Kengeya parish in Buhanda Sub County, Kitagwenda district are counting losses following a heavy storm that destroyed crops today evening.
The hailstorm destroyed gardens of cassava, beans, bananas and other crops in several Villages in the two administrative units.
Some of the affected residents say the heavy rain accompanied by hail storms started at around 4:00 pm today and lasted for about an hour.
Residents say they now fear that any time famine may break out in their area following the destruction of their crops.
Vincent Byamukama alias Omuhindi the Kabare ward councilor who doubles as the secretary for works Kitagwenda town council told our reporter that he is aware of the matter and will forward it to relevant offices.Patrick Turyamureba payi and the LC3 chairpersons for Kitagwenda town council said that he will direct parish chiefs and extension workers to compile a report that will be sent to the district and the ministry of disaster and preparedness for assistance.
