KAZO:

Kazo district forestry officer, Dickson Bigirwa has asked the public to use the world Earth day commemoration to know how to live in a good environment. Bigirwa made the call in an exclusive interview with Rwenzori fm on issues concerning world Earth day commemoration.

This year’s celebrations were held under the theme: Planet versus plastics. According to Bigirwa, the United Nations environmental program shows that globally 07 billion tonnes of plastic waste are generated every year, 10% recycled and 90% none recycled. He adds that Uganda produces 600 tonnes of plastics with 40% well-disposed while 60% left in the environment, something he said is dangerous to people’s health. He urged the public to be concerned about the dangers of plastics, calling for proper disposal of plastic wastes. Kazo Town Council Mayor, Justus Mugarura said it should be everyone’s responsibility to practice proper disposal of plastics.World Earth Day is an annual event on April 22 to demonstrate support for environmental protection.
