IBANDA LEADERS THREATEN TO ARREST WETLAND ENCROACHERS

BY FEDNAND
The Ibanda municipal environment officer Robert Tumwesigye has threatened to take action against wetland encroachers.
He made the warning while inspecting wetlands in Ibanda municipality that have been encroached.
Tumwesigye noted that people have failed to adhere to the law that requires a person who has land near wetlands, to always leave 50 or 30 meters for before establishing any project.
Referring to environmental cat 2019, Tumwesigye explained that this act provides for sustainable management of the environment; to establish an authority as a coordinating, monitoring and supervisory body for that purpose; and for other matters incidental to or connected with the foregoing.
Tumwesigye added that his office at Municipality and the Ministry of Water and Environment are committed to avoiding, minimizing, and mitigating adverse environmental and social impacts associated with its projects, as well as adopting a gender-sensitive and gender-equitable approach for all its projects.
