Ibanda district Chairman Happy Herbert Mayanja has today escaped detention after being arrested by Ibanda Police in the morning as he launched the removal of scrappy Tarmac on Ibanda-Kagongo-Kitagwenda road.
His efforts had achieved less of the job before being intercepted by police claiming that the road belongs to the Central Government and must be rehabilitated by an agency of government under the Ministry of Works and Transport.
Mayanja recently threatened to stage a peaceful demonstration should the Government delay to work on the same road which is in a sorry state.
He said that recently he wanted to work on the road using District graders but unfortunately the road authority threatened to arrest him and his team.
Mayanja added that the road in question is a threat to pregnant
mothers from different areas that use it to access antenatal services
from Ibanda Hospital-Kagongo.
Speaking to our reporter shortly after securing a police bond, Mayanja expressed disappointment in what he termed as delayed service delivery to the people of Ibanda district and nearby districts, saying that the road has been in a sorry state for a long time.
