Ibanda District has today launched the distribution of 50,000 coffee seedlings (cuttings) to farmers who are members of the Ibanda Coffee Farmers Cooperative Union.
The seedlings were provided by the Ministry of Agriculture, Animal Industry and Fisheries (MAAIF), following a request by the district Chairperson to support 17 cooperative societies under the Ibanda Coffee Union.
Currently, 20,862 acres of land in Ibanda are under coffee cultivation, producing 14,381 tonnes annually and generating UGX 178 billion in revenue.
Over 38,402 households accounting for 58% of the district’s population are engaged in the coffee value chain.
The Ibanda district production officer Peter Abaho Bwenge hailed the ministry for providing them with seedlings and advised beneficiaries to put them to use.
Meanwhile; the LC5 Chairperson for Ibanda district Happy Herbert Mayanja encouraged beneficiaries to take care of the seeds of gold so that they can harvest much in near future.
