IBANDA BODA BODA RIDERS ATTACK POLICE OVER ARREST OF THEIR CHAIRPERSON

There was drama at Ibanda central police station as rowdy Boda boda riders from Ibanda north stormed police demanding the release of Abdul Bukenya their chairperson who was arrested.
Bukenya who is the Ibanda North constituency boda boda riders and owners Sacco was arrested on allegations that he recently led rowdy boda boda riders to destroy properties of a person suspected to have stolen a motorcycle.
Boda boda riders in Ibanda north led by Abdul Bukenya have been at loggerheads with police accusing them of releasing suspected motorcycle thieves instead of prosecuting them.
Abdul recently told our reporter that using the service providers’ tracking system, the suspects are traced and known but police have failed to act swiftly over the matter despite their continued complaints.
It is alleged that after destroying properties of the suspect, he reported the matter to police who yesterday arrested Abdul Bukenya.
This prompted the rowdy boda boda riders to attack Ibanda central police station demanding for the immediate release of their leader.
To calm the situation, police released Abdul as they continue to investigate the matter further.
Police officers who were manning the situation declined to comment saying they will comment after complete investigations.
