HIGH DRUG ABUSE RATE ATTRIBUTED TO POOR UBRINGING.

Majority of the patients admitted in rehabilitation centers in Ibanda district are the youth, officials say.
The observation was made by the RDC Ibanda Godfrey Metegyereize while addressing media in his office.
He noted that during his visit to a rehabilitation center in Kagongo division, Ibanda municipality, he found majority of the patients admitted were youth which is unfortunate.
He attributed this to poor upbringing by the parents.
He added that drug abuse and addiction are increasing among the youth in the district.
About 70.1% of Ugandans have ever used alcohol and substances and only 39% use substances regularly.
The commonest substance used is alcohol 23.3% followed by Kuber 10.8%, Khat 10.5%, aviation fuel 10.1%, cannabis 9.2% and cigarettes 5.9%.
Meanwhile in the urban setting particularly, heroin, cocaine including by injection with emergence of methamphetamine use in the urban setting.
