Residents of Bisheshe division, Kanyarugiri town council and Nyamarebe sub county have become the latest beneficiaries of free land titles under the Government of Uganda’s Systematic Land Adjudication and Certification (SLAAC) programme.
According to the Ibanda district senior land management officer Vanansio Byarugaba, a total of 3893 land titles have so far been received during the second phase of implementation in Ibanda District.
“This brings formal land ownership to hundreds of families who previously lacked documented proof of their land rights” Vanansio explained that
Byarugaba said that the programme was first rolled out in Ibanda District in 2020 in Mabona Parish, Rukiri Sub-County, where 3,000 land titles were processed and issued to grateful residents.
“The successful first phase paved the way for the current second” he added
SLAAC programme is a government initiative implemented by the Ministry of Lands, Housing and Urban Development with financial and technical support from the World Bank.
