Woman arrested for killing step son in Kanungu

The territorial police in Kanungu have arrested a 26 year old Shivan Orishaba allegedly for the murder of a two and half years old Salvan Akankwasa son of Karimu Nyuga a resident of Kameme cell Kibimbiri parish Kihihi Sub county Kanungu district.
According to the Kigezi region police spokesperson ASP Elly Maate, this happened 2/5/2026 at about 1130hrs in Kameme cell.
Maate said that the father of the deceased was staying in Rukungiri district with his first wife (the mother of the deceased) but later they seperated.
He explained that the father left her in Rukungiri and went to Kameme village in Kihihi for casual work.
While in kihihi, he concubined with the suspect and they have been staying together for close to six months and two weeks back.
Of recent, the man went and brought the deceased and they started staying together with the step mother ( suspect).
So, on the 01/5/2026, the suspect assaulted the deceased badly and he was rushed and admitted in kihihi health center 4 where he was pronounced dead yesterday the 02/5/2026 at around 1130 hours.
The police inquiries were initiated, the body of the deceased examined and the
suspect was accordingly apprehended.
