 KITAGWENDA LCV BOSS ABANDONS OFFICE

The Kitagwenda district chairperson Ismail Mushemeza has abandoned office over multiple corruption reports.

Mushemeza who was last seen in public on Tuesday 22nd July 2025 while doing the final wrap up of the NRM flag bearer elections in Kicheche sub county ,has since then never re-surfaced in office.

Ismail allegedly went into hiding after escaping attempt to arrest him by the state house anti-corruption unit over extorting bribes from job seekers.

The NRM flag bearer elections which were held in his absence were won by hon.Efrance Kenyonyozi Atwongyere the former assistant RDC Kitagwenda.

His disappearance has stirred public concern with some claiming he should be arrested to explain the allegations leveled against him.

The State House Anti-Corruption Unit spokesperson Mariam Natasha, confirmed that the chairperson fled to deliberately evade arrest in connection with multiple reports of corruption.

She added that Mushemeza is accused of soliciting bribes from individuals seeking employment in Kitagwenda district, with victims allegedly paying between Shs 10 million and Shs 20 million each.

The case adds to the growing list of corruption probes targeting local government leaders as authorities ramp up efforts to combat abuse of public office ahead of the 2026 general elections.
