Police in Rukungiri District have launched investigations into the sudden death of a man identified as Mutabaruka, an adult resident of Rugoma Cell, Southern Ward, Kebisoni Town Council.
According to preliminary information from eyewitnesses, Mutabaruka had been working in a banana plantation as a casual labourer. After receiving payment of Shs2,000 for his work, he reportedly went to a nearby trading centre to buy alcohol.
He was later found dead by the roadside under circumstances that are yet to be established.
Police officers responded to the scene, documented the evidence and conveyed the body to the hospital for a postmortem examination to establish the exact cause of death.
Kigezi Region Police spokesperson Nelson Tumushime said investigations are ongoing and appealed to members of the public to assist police with any information that could help identify and arrest those responsible, if foul play is established.
“We appeal to anyone with information that may assist in the investigations to come forward and report to the nearest police station. Such information will be treated with utmost confidentiality,” Nelson Tumushime said.
